About

About Regine

Regine Basha is a single-mom to her son who was diagnosed with ADHD and sensory processing disorder at the age of 4 years old, while living in Brooklyn. Since she chose not to use medication at that early stage, there began the journey through which she learned an enormous amount about managing the diagnosis : from IEPs and school choices, to seeking  various therapies, sensory gyms, social skills programs, as well as to exploring new research in healthy supplements, and brain balance programs. Overall her path provided the tools for her neurodiverse toddler to grow into a thriving teen.  Her family was also among the first to join the Quad Preparatory School in Manhattan which advocates for a 2e 'twice exceptional' program for neurodiverse, high- functioning children and had also entered her child at the NYU Child Mind Institute. An advocate for holistic living and wellness, Regine trained with the Kripalu School of Ayurveda as well as with The Brooklyn Center for Transcendental Meditation. As an arts curator with over 25 years of experience, Regine has also been a coach to many adult artists with ADHD.

I cannot describe how grateful I am to the guidance Regine gave while trying to find the best care for our son with ADHD. Her wealth of experience and knowledge not only helped me find the best specialists quickly, it made me feel like I was not alone on this difficult journey. I am infinitely grateful for her continued support and guidance

Kerry Gaertner Gerbracht, mom and arts leader

To all the parents looking for someone to hold your hand through this emotionally scary and draining parenthood journey, look no further.

Regine is a kind, knowledgeable, easy to talk to advocate that will ease your struggles. When I was looking for a natural way to help my 5 year-old son calm down and have more control of his emotions, I found a group of moms at my son's school that were all going through the same parenting journey. One mom in particular was Regine Basha. She was an amazing supportive sounding board for me as I was researching ways to help my son naturally. I am a mom and a doctor of chiropractic. I never had any intentions of using medication to mask his hyperactivity.

Lynn Viscusi, mom and chiropractor

It is amazing to have the opportunity to work with someone that understands your practice in detail on both a professional and personal level. Our meetings focus on the process, allowing us to uncover the honesty in the intention.

Speaking

Through my story, I help guide families away from the stigma and denial towards a atmosphere of acceptance, productive thinking and creativity for their young ADHD child. Using examples from my own 15 years of experience and extensive research (without using medication), I share how to deal with tricky family situations, how to negotiate schools and teacher support and how to set up the neurodiverse child for success with self-awareness, self-esteem and management skills. The greater goal is to imprint habits early on in order to set the child up for success in later years.

Mindset Management

Parents need to learn to adjust to the diagnosis, and it starts with cultivating a new mindset and attitude about what’s going on with your child. For a neurodiverse child to grow with ease and to thrive, parents first have to banish any shame or stigma around the ADHD diagnosis and promote a culture of acceptance, knowledge and transparency. Imprinting these habits early on is paramount and will nourish your child’s future self esteem.

Mother and Son

Social Dynamics: Family & Friends

People from all backgrounds, religions, cultures and social status can be impacted by ADHD. How they react to the diagnosis is often culturally-biased and can range from total denial that the diagnosis exists to acceptance with ease. It is important to find appropriate ways of informing and preparing grandparents, siblings, extended families and neighbors for optimal and caring interactions with your child.

School & Life Choices

How to best navigate the tricky terrain of schools, IEPs, therapists and the question of medicine without falling apart! How to build a team and community for your child’s success in these early years and make lifestyle choices for all around greater ease. This early time and investment is more important than the college fund!

Finding Common Ground

The world can be louder, brighter and more intensely vivid for the ADHD child. Learn how to read the rhythms + cues and how to find common ground and equilibrium with your child’s energy. Learn how to meet in the middle, set boundaries and allow time for parental self-care as well.

Tools + Resources

There are many resources and products out there to help with your child’s development and needs. Of course every child is different and has a different emphasis with their ADHD, but after much research, I have listed below the vetted products that have helped me and that most schools and therapy gyms use to alleviate some of the symptoms that come with Anxiety and ADHD, especially for the little ones.

Sensory Supporting Products

Weighted Compression Vest

Smart Knits Kids Compression Undershirt

When my toddler got fidgety in class, he was instantly calmed by the weighted vest. It felt soothing to him to have that grounded feeling in his body.

Topcee Weighted Blanket for kids and toddlers
These are a great way to help your neurodiverse toddler feel in touch with their body and to let go of anxieties, fidgeting and over-stimulation before sleeping.

Homezie Sensory Swing for Kids Indoor +Outdoor
For proprioceptive movement (some neurodiverse children need practice with) the therapy swing is a perfect way to engage your child in safe movement that is fun and relaxing. Occupational therapists often use this item with ADHD children.

Kids Swivel Chair
My child LOVED his swivel chair ! Another fun, easy and safe way to create movement while your kid is literally spinning in place.

Trideer Wobble Cushion
We used this seat to promote core balance and to stimulate small movements, which can aid in concentration when your child is challenged to ‘sit still and listen’.

SANHO Dynamic Movement Sensory Sox
Another fun and beloved item for sensory-seeking ADHD kids who love to push against something or crash into sofas. This product helped create a safe way for muscles to feel that resistance. It truly is a relieving workout and feel-good activity.

Scientoy Fidget Toy Set
There are many thoughts about fidget toys; love them or hate them, they do play a role in concentration; It’s like if the hands are busy the brain can focus.

Chew Tube Clip On
As a result of anxiety-driven habits, small kids often chew their jacket sleeves until they are torn (this happened for us around the ages of 2-5yrs old). Using chew necklaces and bracelets helped accommodate this habit and helped with concentration in school or with tasks. This habit often fades away or can be replaced with gum-chewing in later years.

Audio + Visual Supports

ZOHAN EMO 30 Ear Protection Ear Muffs for Concerts, Fireworks etc
I found these to be hugely helpful to our sensory-challenged kid in the early years and they continue to be helpful on airplanes for instance. ADHD kids often have the superpower ability to hear every sound in the room. Sonically-dense environments can prove to be confusing and derailing. These provide a calming effect when traveling or when you are in large crowds.

Homedics Sound Sleep White Noise Sound Machine
There is a lot of research about the benefits of white noise or drone sounds for sleeping (even for adults). This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of how sound and different frequencies can help balance the brain and promote sleep. White noise usually works like a charm.

Kadams Visual Timer for Kids
If your child tends to respond well to visual charts (rather than vocal reminders) then this is a very helpful and playful way to have the neurodiverse child understand how time passes. Many schools use this kind of product as well as sand timers. I think it works for everyone really.
